    AeroFred Klingberg Wing

    This is a 3d printable version of the famous Klingberg Wing.

    Important! - Download the latest version of the files before printing.


    The Klingberg Wing is probably one of the best flying wings for R/C there is, It was designed by the brilliant Rol Klingberg and was kitted by FutureFlight many years ago.

    This is a smaller version of the 2 mater span KW, sized to 1.3 meter, fully printable on 200mm by 200mm by 180mm volume 3d printers. Specs:

    Span: 1320mm
    Print weight:320g
    Area 19,2 dm2

    Recommended Gear:

    3s1800 or 3s 2200 or 4s 1300
    28mm outrunner or 32mm outrunner
    5 grams servos
    Corona digital MG 5 dollar servos from HK At 620 grams the wing loading is 32,2 g/dm2.

    All Up Weight as a glider 400 grams?? I haven´t tested that yet.
    All Up Weight with motor and 3s 2200 Battery less than 600 grams

    I´m including in this listing all the STL files, 5 sections per wing panel plus hatch, servo covers and hatch covers.

    The KW was a glider and could have a pusher motor, they used a .10 cox I think, we will use an electric 28mm or 32mm diameter. Notes:

    At this time I´m releasing a slope glider version that has a gear pocket where a 3s 2200mA/h battery can be fit, soon I´ll be releasing a pusher motor pod that will be glued on top of the wing as can be seen in the print screens. You can start printing before the pod is out because it will be made to glue on the wing skin as seen in the pictures.

    I have not flown this wing but it was made over the original plan, the airfoils are the same, the washout, the angles, all the same as the original, only 1,3meter instead of 2 meter span.

    I´m also including in this listing factory files so you can print tune the settings to your printer and Gcode files for a 200X200X180 mm direct drive machine, will work on an original Prusa or any similar machine. To do:

    1.Corrected one of the wing gcodes, the bed temp was 56 instead of 60C.
    2.Added all separate gcodes.
    3.Included files for a prototype with 1 meter span I did before this final version.
    4.Addedthe servo pocket covers in stl, gcode and .factory formats I hope you like this printable flying wing, one of my favourite FW of all time.

    I just uploaded this to the sketchup warehouse. its the 3d model of the Prandtl-D. are you familiar with this project? its worth looking at

      This wings airfoil looks very thin, lets see how it holds on a print.

          Jim, have you designed the PandtlD wing on sketchup? Do you have the airfoils in dxf format?

            No I only helped to get the iges files converted to skp and cleaned up.

            i can ask the guys on Facebook. Or I can take section cuts of the Sketchup drawing too. I'm pretty sure to get this shape the core has to be molded or printed and skinned on a specifically curved surface. I'll see if I can get them to post a build log perhaps 👍


              To do this I think I just need the airfoils used and the position, a top view and the twist angle, I think I can do this wing with those elements.


                Have you looked at what's on the ama website on the project, linked above. There were no airfoils used, the wing is a completely organic blend from root to tip. I can cut sections in the Sketchup drawing to show what the shape is at each couple inches of span. the twist curve and top view are on the ama site I believe. Because of the spa load and lift distribution there is no straight line anywhere on this except for the elevon hinge line


                  Yes, I watched the video presentation almost completely.

                  If it only uses one airfoil at root and one or the same at the tip I can make a loft like on the Klingberg wing


                    The airfoil changes throughout the planform, and it's not just blended between a root rib and a tip rib. I'll get some screen shots of the model with section cuts so you can see what I mean. Each rib would need to be a one off, or 1 for each wing anyway.


                      it would probably be easier to get it into a format of a good software for making formers and templates. it could be done in sketchup but from what I hear from other people that make drawings for laser cutting kits, sketchup is a waste of my time. but its what ive gotten used to and its it works for my purposes

                        Hello Jim,

                        I fixed the post, all I did was hit return after each image Its like a word processor.

                        Sketchup was never my favourite, I use fusion360 but there are other good 3d cad software like rhino, solidworks but all paid.

                        Don´t worry about this I can´t pick this project right now and when I think about it I´ll see if I find something on NASA website, I think they have released this already.

                            N0w I would like to attempt to print some single wall "fingers" at the
                            TOP of the mating parts to assist in part mating.

                            You have "split" the wings very near the middle of those Stiffening "X"'s
                            And I will be mating my wings with a little printed diamond that fits into those
                            1/2 diamonds on either side for alignment.

                            But to do it in a ready to print fashion
                            I am having difficulty manipulating the STL meshes in this effort.
                            Rhino is my CAD but my 3gHZ CPU PC only has 8 G ram and its very sluggish.

                            Any chance I could get the CAD file for adding that type of "feature" ?

                              You may need a better graphics board, I have a 2gb one and I ´m considering a new one with 4gb, apart from that my pc is an i5 7th gen, 3.6 Ghz I think and 16 gb of ram.
